Our autumn meeting 2024 took place in Lisbon from October 4th to 5th. Carlos Gomes did a wonderful job at organising an unforgettable weekend in his home country. Thank you, Carlos!
On Friday we had a very interesting lecture series by many professionals on the topic of “AI Challenges and Opportunities in the legal sector.” First, we listened to Filipa Caldeira, Advisory Data & AI Sales Specialist at IBM Portugal. In her insightful presentation, “Watsonx in Action: Unlocking AI for the Legal Sector,” she introduced Watsonx – IBM’s cutting-edge AI and data platform designed for businesses – and discussed its potential application in law firms. Then we heard from Hugo Farinha, COO of ROOX, a legaltech company from Portugal, specialized in delivering high-quality products and services tailored for the legal sector, aiming to streamline processes and eliminate repetitive tasks. This was followed by a presentation by José Eduardo Fonesca, Director at Kyndryl who dived into Challenges and Opportunities of AI in the legal sector. Lastly, we had the pleasure of hearing from Ella de Silva from Legau on their mission of transforming legal drafting with AI. Thank you to all guest speakers for the insightful presentations!
We ended our Friday with a walk through the old city of Lisbon, enjoying some sights at night and having dinner at O Jardim Lisboa, a wonderful Portuguese restaurant.
On Saturday we held our general meeting, where we decided on many great innovations for our network. Afterwards, Carlos organised a sight seeing tour by bus to many beautiful locations such as Sintra, Guincho Beach and Cascais. We ended the day at the MAAT Restaurant with some great food and good conversations.

Our spring meeting 2024 took place in Munich from May 24th to 25th. We thank Andrea Hellmann for welcoming us in her home country and enabling us to experience the beautiful city of Munich.
On Friday we had the pleasure of listening to very interesting lectures regarding German law and AI by Prof. Dr. Christian Wolf from the University of Hannover and Munich Notary Wolfram Schneeweiss. It was very interesting hearing from German legal professionals on this important and more than current topic. In the evening we had dinner at Haxengrill, a traditional Bavarian restaurant in the heart of Munich.
On Saturday we held our general meeting, where we had great discussions about our Association. Afterwards, there was some free time to explore Munich, the sights, markets, and bars. To end the successful meeting, we concluded with dinner at Schlosswirt Schwaige, which was great for catching up and enjoying each other’s company.

Our last meeting took place in Skopje, Macedonia from 6th to 10th October 2023. Our colleagues Aleksandar Kchev and Mishko Radosavljevik from Bonafide Law put together a wonderful and informative weekend in their home country.
On the first day, we observed some interesting welcome talks on the topic of AI and law. Sonja Anastasova, an associate of Bona Fide Law gave us insight into the EU AI Act and the many unanswered questions when it comes to legally regulating AI. Afterwards, we heard from Filip Petrovski, the CEO of Data Masters, who talked about AI, data and its usage from a business perspective. Lastly, Svetislav Smilkov from ARC AUTOMOTIVE, INC. educated our members on the technological development zones in North Macedonia. This was followed by an amazing dinner at a traditional Macedonian restaurant.
On the next day, our general meeting took place, where we had a very productive discussion about the future of our network. Afterwards, we had the incredible opportunity to explore North Macedonia’s renowned Tikves Winery. We started with an enlightening tour, delving into the intricate process of winemaking, which was followed by a delicious four-course dinner paired with exquisite wine tastings.

In autumn of 2022 the United Legal Network held their biannual meeting in Istanbul, Turkey. Our member Hakan Cinar organized a more than wonderful weekend, full of networking, learning, and experiences.
The itinerary included Turkish anti-competition advice for HR departments, an introduction into Turkish data protection law and how it compares with GDPR, a ULN General Assembly meeting, and a more light-hearted sailing adventure.

This year´s last meeting took place in wonderful Milan. It was very well organized by our Italian ULN-partners Gaetano and Gianluca Sardo.
After a short get together we had our conference at the Bianca Maria Palace Hotel, where Prof. Avv. Fabio Ziccardi, formerly Professor of Comparative Law, held a lecture about “Evidences and expert testimony in arbitration”. Afterwards all members had an interesting discussion on the topic.
The next day, our general meeting took place. After talking about several on-going projects like our social media performance, the main topic was the discussion on the offers for our new website. In the evening we enjoyed a guided visit of the city and saw Leonardo Da Vinci´s “The Last Supper”, before we had dinner.

The spring meeting of 2018 took place in the beautiful city of Helsinki, where it was organized by our Finnish ULN-partner Gerrit van Setten.
The weekend began with a trip by ferry from Stockholm to Helsinki. On board we were listening to an interesting lecture about „Structuring cross-border acquisitions and investments in Finland“ held by our colleague Erik Jaanti.
Afterwards, the meeting took place in Helsinki. After a nice welcome by Nicolas Meyer we discussed the consequences of the GDPR for ULN and other important matters regarding the ULN Law Review and our website. However, the main topics related to both the challenges of the digitalization in an international context and legal tech joint projects of ULN.

Our last meeting of the year took place in the wonderful city of Prague. It was very well planned by our czech ULN-partner Eva Krajova. Due to international guests from all fields of law we could gain a lot of new and useful information during discussions and presentations.
The weekend started with a workshop about doing business in Czech Republic and the most discussed topics in the country. Afterwards we had a sightseeing program and finished off the day all together to establish the personal relations between the partners. The following day we discussed the future of the UL-Network as well as the hot topics in the world of law.
All in all it was a great organized meeting with a good combination of work-related appointments and cultural enjoyment in one of the historical centers in Mid-Europe. Moreover we could strength and extend our international connection.
